Caribbean Stud Poker

Caribbean Stud Poker is derived from 5 Card Stud and 7 Card Stud. It's not played against other players, but rather against the house. It's a casino game played on a blackjack style of table with an ante box for each player. The object of Caribbean Stud Poker is to beat the dealer by having the top hand.

Caribbean Stud Poker Rules

  1. The players place bets in their ante box. The limits are posted and the bets must fall in line with them. There is a chip option for an extra jackpot that players may use or decide not to play. Players must not exchange information with each other.

  2. The dealer collects the optional jackpot chips by pressing a mechanism. He then deals every player 5 cards face-down and himself 4 cards face-down and 1 card face-up.

  3. The players either call by doubling their ante amount in their betting box, or fold. If players fold, the ante bet is lost to them.

  4. The dealer must wait until all of the poker players have either called or folded before turning up his 4 face-down, or hole, cards. He must have at least an A-K or higher hand or he must pay players with ante bets. If the dealer has the A-K or higher, he competes with the players' hands.

  5. If a player beats the dealer, the payout is even on the ante, but a bonus amount is given for the call. If the dealer's hand wins, the player loses both the ante and call bets.

Caribbean Stud Poker Strategy

***Players are responsible for making sure the lights on their machine work when their bets are made. If the hand is already dealt and the light didn't go on, the player will be out the bet money.

***The main strategy in this non-bluffing game against the dealer is to fold unless the player can beat the dealer's A-K. The ante bet should never be forfeited by a player with an Ace high hand. Pairs should always be played as a general rule.

***Online jackpot and odds calculators can help Caribbean Stud Poker players develop strategy to try and edge out the dealer.

***Since limits as well as payouts can vary widely depending on the casino, players should consider this when creating strategic play.
